About book The only book of its kind covering both the history of the last two centurie’s speculations in the West about the origin of religion, and by a scholar who is both an historian of ideas and a trained prehistorian.
“No up-to-date work has hitherto focused on the problem of the origins of religion, and none has related the history of theory to the practice of prehistorians. It…….. fills an important gap in Religious Studies.”

“Garry Tromph does not fall into any methodological fallacy; ………he does not look for a hypothetical Ursprung uncorroborated by facts, and exposes the ‘vicious circle’ of non- causal theories proposed by various social theorists and psychoanalysts that are neither verifiable nor falsifiable.”
